I've been given a used microwave and was wondering if anyone has ever used on of these and with what success?

These kilns work great but are a for smelting precious metals only. ie If you got a rock that has suspect of gold in it then crush and smelt to get a little gold button. If you are wanting to do anything like an assay then get a real kiln. The flux used with these microwave kilns is special and so far no one I know of has figured out the mixture meaning you would have to purchase his products to use it.
It also requires a very large microwave with at least 1100 watts but a 1200 is better. You also might check in on the opening requirements of the microwave door. Not too many are that large from what I have heard.

The prob I have with the fluxing is that there isn't a "flux all" combo.
If you want to get the most of the values you flux for the specific ore.
Most assays I've run require litharge ( lead ) in the flux to gather up the values.
You wouldn't wanna run that in your house or any closed area.

I have commonly used litharge, soda, and silica to run assays.
I have done so much, with so little, for so long, that I am now qualified to do anything with nothing.
Now, I just have to find the time to put the dang thing together.

I just wanted to make a comment.
For those of you who think smelting in the microwave is a cool idea....using your wife's micro is a very BAD idea.
...just tryin to save someone some headache
