veranda carpet

Postby digman » Thu Mar 14, 2013 12:00 pm

Hi all,
I've read a lot of people's comments on Shaw Veranda carpet #H54163 and would like to try it because Midwest gold is notoriously fine. BUT, I cannot find it listed as such anywhere, even on the Shaw web site. Could it have a new and improved name? Could someone post a picture (top and bottom) so I know what to look for if I go hunting for it. Is it backed somehow? Thanks for any info.

I've never used it, but its not too expensive. Between $2.00 and $2.50 per sq ft.

I saw some at costco the other day, I didn't price it. It looked like probably a 6'x8'.

DO NOT BUY THE BACKED-GLUED/SEALED VERSION-as does not allow microfine migration and not the same for recovery as loads up like any backed carpet and pile not near as thick. On the true carpet each of the tiny pine cones is hollow and filters to allow the microfines to migrate down and water to flow through to keep a constant fluidized bed for the best recovery of all sizes of gold. Each cone is punched up during construction by a metal dimple to create this amazing carpet. Beats anything and everything at any price. 8-) -John

Thanks everyone,
Hoser, you cleared up the most important part. Backed or unbacked. I found two places locally that sell it. I'm going there today and get some. Also, for some reason I was thinking that it was a "ribbed" texture carpet. Your description cleared that up also. I found that it is listed under the "Philadelphia Commercial" collection and the backing is listed as "Unitary"
I use a 3" Proline dredge that has been very useful for around here. But I noticed that real fine gold migrates under the "miner's moss" and eventually goes out the end. Last summer I put a length of burlap under the moss and it seemed to stop this, but was just another layer to contend with during clean up. (It did seem to stop the migration/loss though.)
The weather is about to turn here so I'm getting the ich to get out.
Thanks again for all the comments and heavy pans to everyone.

fine Midwest gold. you need your sluice as flat as you can get it, with the rocks sill clearing out the end.

the Gold Cube with the Gold Banker attachment for screening the material is GREAT on midwest fine gold! nothing on the market right now can compete with its speed in stripping gold from screened material!

I've been looking at those too, Russ. It looks like a quicker way to work down cons from the dredge. I just hate to spend the money.
