Best 8 inch hose?

Building an 8" dredge for Nome.

Need suggestions for which brand/style 8" suction hose to use in 30-40 foot length. Would a Keene 8" heavy duty hose be too stiff? Needs to last several seasons.

Also, ideas for where to buy same?

All advice and/or experiences welcome.

Hi Joe!are you driving up to Alaska or going to ship your stuff up there? if driving, just stop by a supplier on the way and save on shipping the hose. Kanoflex hose is good stuff! and maybe check Craigslist for someone on your route that may have some for sale! anyway, good luck on your adventure in Alaska!

TigerFlex hose is great. Trying to remember name of supply company in Oregon. I was able to buy a 20ft section for like $6.00 a foot for 5" hose. I'll investigate it and get back to you.

On another forum 49r Mike mentioned Pacific Echo hose as good and condemned tigerflex as too wimpy as I also. Just a caveat as haven't used PE hose in at least 20+ years. Might be a temp option???anyhow just trying to help and as always tons a au 2 u 2-John

I have used all of those discussed. Kanaflex's major drawback is its relative stiffness in cold water. Yet it is the most resistant to collapse of all those that I have used. Tigerflex made 10 years ago has had more resistance to collapse than hose made today. Nothing more discouraging than getting a rock across the nozzle and having your entire hose get sucked flat! To make the best of both worlds, use Kanaflex for your main hose and use a short 5' section of the lighter, more flexible Tigerflex near your suction nozzle.

I spent some time arguing with Pacific Echo sales last week about their resistance to collapse under higher vacuum. They indicated that their posted vacuum rating was under-rated and that their hose would indeed resist 30# of suction. This was for their 12" , #125 hose. Their recommendation was to step up to their #126 hose as it is made with an extra layer of re-inforcing material and therefore more resistant to collapse. And it was cheaper than either of the major brands listed above. The only drawback with the #126 hose is that it has a reverse helix that might not be compatible with some "threaded bullet" hose attachments.
