I had a couple of calls asking for more info on this event or who was organizing it and about making reservations. Well...here is the scoop:
Suggested Date: July 22-28, 2012, come early and/or stay on.
Location: River's West RV Park (aka "Screaming Diesel" RV Park)...I love that name!!
River Site : SF Umpqua River two miles north of Myrtle Creek, Oregon alongside of Interstate 5.
Additional:
There will be no event pre-reservations, participation forms, info hotlines, attendance fees or listing of participants. Everything is unplanned and informal, at least from what we see. There will be no organizing committee or leadership...period. What happens...happens. Also, no scheduled rallies, seminars, organzied potlucks or miner's meetings. If you want to be there, suggest you make reservations at the above RV Park or at another local lodging. Please, bring your dredging/powersluicing gear, have fun, find some gold and just plan to see as many from DEF 2001-02 as decide to make it to this unorganized "reunion". If only a couple, five, ten or fifteen people, whatever the number, come to participate...well, that's just fine.
Some of us recall what a fun time we had at the DEF events in 2001-2003. In no way are we trying to replicate the original DEF miner's events or the dedicated efforts of the team that made DEF successful a decade ago. They deserve our appreciation for the positive legacy and memories they left for us.
One more thing...during the week, likely Wednesday pm, some suggested that those attending together for a brief memorial reflection/celebration for miners and friends no longer with us...good folks like Geno, Phil Kilham, Ray Sweet, Chuck Cox, all too many more.
