1st thing I did was to put a rust converter in the tank. it was mostly phosphoric acid. it turned the rust blue or black in color. when I dried it flaked off worse than the rusty metal did. I had put a bunch of nuts and bolts in the tank and shook it very good and washed it out before using the converter. now for the new problems. found 3 or 4 products when I started looking at moto tank repair. the problems is they don´t want to ship to Costa Rica. even companies that have international offices don´t have an office in central America. the closest office was Puerto rico and there office was for the Caribbean. but not central America. ok time to change gears. started looking for a new tank. found one fast $26.99. great! cheaper than the prep and liner. nope won´t ship outside the states and Canada. found a higher price tank . just under $40 and they will ship to central America for a $100 shipping.
back to square 1. I think I need to find a new tank. tried Honda Costa Rica……. no parts. any ideas ??¿¿

Dickb

you came up with a better website than I did. it had phone numbers of distributors and a map of where they were at. found one that was 30 k from my house. waiting for a call back with the price and when it can be here.

Larry where did that quote come from???? i know that any gas tank that has set dry for many years outside in the sun will definatly EXPLODE if you put a tourch to it! just cause its dry and rusty dont mean it still wont explode! ive welded many fuel tanks and the best way to do it is either fill it with foam like the fire dept does to putout fires or fill it with water and leave the hole up on top. and even then you need tobe very carefull!

BAH...sissys all of you

hmmm wonder if you can use or make a bracket for any gas tank you find. use a conector for a boat motor and your all set. if you have some one that can weld alum. they mite be able to make a tank that will fit on the motor brackets.

http://www.marineengine.com/products/ac ... in=2563659 some thing like this. that way you can remove the tank to clean it out easy.

if it was anything but gravity feed I could use my main tank. if I had a tig welder I could make one myself. hmmm a new tool. yep sounds good…. my wife would kill me. be better to buy a tank.

Two weeks doesn't sound to bad. I don't think they have overnight air to Costa Rica. If I ordered one on ebay, it would probably take 10 days. And that not shipping international like you need.

You can try and install a inline fuel filter to get you by for the time being, but you may need more than one if you have a lot of loose rust in the tank.

Best of luck.
