Black matting under punch plate & carpet for sluic

Postby h20prospector » Wed Jun 29, 2011 7:39 am

I've got a 3" Proline combo unit, and it seems the fine gold retention isn't what it should be. Has anyone that owns a Proline made any changes to improve retention? Any suggestions?

Pat ive got a Proline 2 inch dredge.and i have 2 sluices for it. one is basically stock while the other is set up for fine gold (no pickers or bigger)like we get in the midwest. it consists of raised 1/4 expanded over ribbed carpet over black ribbed rubber mat. no riffels for fine gold!and it works for me! but just DONT load it up or itll all blow out! on your HB youll probly need some screen to go over this type of setup to keep the bigger stuff from knocking your finer stuff out. i saw one of your pickers! dont type to fool ole Russ!

Not trying to fool you Russ. Don't understand the concept of having no riffles. I screened my concentrates with 1/4" and 1/8" classifiers, and let what didn't go through dry out. That's when I found most of the big pieces I posted on CGC. Previously I had looked through those rocks while they were wet and tossed them thinking nothing was there. Was I ever wrong. I think Hoser John has a Proline highbanker, and will chime in shortly.

Pat for smaller gold(fines) you dont need the riffels to creat trubidity thatll keep the fines in suspension and out the tailend of the sluice for the most part. thats why my over/under sluice works so good for fine gold.bigger rocks and (if ever) pickers go over that part of the sluice(upper) and eventually over 4 riffels at the end of the sluice and the 3/16 inch and smaller goes to the under sluice that has 1/4 raised expanded screen over the Veranda carpet full length of the lower(under) sluice. the smaller the gold, the more classification youll need and the slower the water and feed if you really want to keep small fines that i see in the midwest. from what ive seen from you guys over in Colorado, your getting chunkier gold than i do everywhere else.untill i redid my sluice, i had several different setups for my upper sluice. now ive got to get it into the water to try it out and go from there ,but i think this maybe the correct setup for me for awhile. I NEED TO GET HER WET!

Hi Russ:

I wish you would post some Pictures of how you made that dredge sluice. I think it would be real good down in the Carolinas too. Very rarely do they see pickers that stay on top of a 1/4" mesh.

Just go on to www.photobucket.com and register. Then go to the album page and create an album. Then point on the green bar to upload now and click on the picture you want to upload in your hard drive. After it uploads click on save now and go to album. It should open the picture with a bunch of code options below. Click on the IMG line and the copy tag should show. Then right click and hit copy. then go the the forum and paste to a blank line and the code should appear. If you've done it right, when you preview, you should see the picture. Done!! I know you can do it! :D

hahaha, Dick ill try that but its just like using alum. except i heated it to do the bends instead of using a brake. then just use the ABS adheasive. its a over/under sluice. nothing special except its 1/2 the weight of my old alum. O/U sluice. but ill try that. right now im all packed and ready to go somewhere depending on the weather!July 8 ill either be in Indiana or OK or jail! which ever comes first!

Hi Russ:

Thats not the point. I want to teach an old dog a new trick and I know he can do it. You need to learn how to post pictures. Other wise I'll get Hoser to whip your backside.

Your half way there. I put the photobucket link on the last post just click on it and register.

Don't get your Missouri stubborn streak all rilled up! :o

Hi Russ:

Your on the right track. When you open windows explorer, click on my computer and a drop down menu will open. If you put all your files on drive C then click on that drive and you'll get the top line to highlight in blue. If you use a different drive to store your files then click that drive. Next go up to the top toolbar and click file and click new slide over and click folder and it will put a new folder on your drive. Now take a deep breath.

Go to the side menu again and scroll down till you find the folder you just created. Right click it and a drop dowm menu will open. Toward the bottom you'll see rename. Left click it and a window will open by the new folder you just created. Click on that window so that it highlighted in blue and put your curser in that box and click. Type PHOTOS and hit enter. Now the new folder has a name. Copy 1 picture amd paste it into the folder. Now you have a picture that you can use to upload.

After you get that far, we'll go the rest of the way.

Good luck.
