Randy & Elena's Metal Detecting Adventure - 13 Aug 11

Greetings Gold Dredgers,

Here's a short father/daughter metal detecting story..........just to break things up a bit from endless gold dredging. ;)

Well, yesterday was Saturday in HOT & HUMID Georgia........really sunny too. So, what did my bored 17 year old daughter say to me about 10 AM? "Dad, I am really bored. I want to do something fun with you. Can we go out for an excursion?" Well, imagine that! :P

I suggested several options, like going to the shooting range, swimming & metal detecting for lost treasure at a local public school or park. Guess what? she picked metal detecting! :)

So, I got out my two White's MXTs, loaded up batteries, ops checked them and we were off. We arrived at a local elementary school, and luckily nobody was around.......probably that by 10:45 AM, in the blazing sun, it was probably 92 degrees and rising fast!

We both worked the play grounds, swing sets and baseball diamond, and grass inbetween. Needless to say, I needed some sun block and a bottle of water every 20-30 minutes. Glad I brought both! I was pouring sweat, and looked like I'd been in a pool after our 45 minutes were up!

In the end, Elena was the big winner for the day........she found 2 lost quarters, a 1/2 pavement impact ground 9MM bullet, a dime and several kid's clothes buttons. Now what in the heck is a 9MM bullet doing on an elementary school grounds?

I got 2 nickels, 3 pennies and some junk. Actually I got a lot of junk, just decided to not fill my pockets after a while.

On the drive home we were planning on stopping by the local Warner Robins high school to search for lost class rings, but found the place all fenced off, gates closed & locked up! Imagine that.........a high school that looked more like a prison than a school. No way in... By this time it was approaching mid90s or hotter, and we decided to get out earlier in the day next trip out when it would be cooler, so we called it a day.

Overall, we had a fun father/daughter "detecting adventure", despite the sun/heat/humidity! :P

Here's our "big" haul:

Nice to hear that a kid spends time with "pops" instead of getting into trouble. Hell, bullets on school grounds isn't so uncommon nowdays! We had a grade schooler get caught with a gun in his pack here! Freakin' little "Mexican" gangsters are taking over the place!!!(But not my area!!!)
