You know, they tow those big 'ole Oil drilling platforms to 'their spot', drop their """spud poles""" and then they raise the humungous rigs up on those spud poles to firmly keep the rig in place (above the water) on it's legs.
So, why not get the dredge rig in place and then drop 4 spud poles to steady the dredge on it's feet. Dredge away until the end of the day, then raise the dredge farther up the spud poles to safely 'park it' for the night - up and out of the water. Rain, winds and other nastiness are bypassed and the crew can stay on board, high, dry and safe -- or -- use a launch to get back to the "house" for the night. Bad Rains, Horrific Winds, Tides, Storm Surges, Terrible Currents, etc, are 'dealt with' while the rig is pre-positioned for the next time's activity.
That would work for the moderate to large dredges (and not the smaller ones that return to the near shelter of the town, or shore, every night).
Hard to believe that no-one thought about this before. I Wonder why?
