I you determine that you do need MSHA training - be sure to get the "Right One" for the kind of mining you do.
There are two "flavors" of MSHA training, with both having the second training day of identical First Aid Training.
One "Flavor" is underground mining. HEAVILY centered on coal mining – which is where MSHA came from.
The other "Flavor" is above ground mining.
Both "Flavors" require a follow-up site specific additional training (8 hours) at the location where you work.
EVERYONE employed in some way at the mine site is required to go through this ‘Gosh Darned’, Federally mandated (and for those possessed of normal intelligence, mind numbing) regimen each and every ‘darn’ year. At the end of this training you get to carry your very own cardboard card certifying that you completed the training. Don’t expect to, in any way, have learned anything - especially if you possessed common sense to start with.
