Who's going to watch the premeire episode of Bering Sea Gold tonight on Discovery? Starts @ 10 eastern. Wonder if it'll be filled with uber drama like the other "reality" shows Discovery and History films?

I agree.

Paddling the big dredge out with the excavator was really stupid. At least they showed some gold though. The Nome scenery was neat to see. About the middle of the show they showed a bucketline dredge. That was the Schaumberg dredge and was just across the street from where Dave and I camped on the beach. The last part of the show when the showed the rough surf was just the way it was the whole 9 days Dave and I were there.

Here's some Nome gold dredging without all of the drama. There is a whole series of video's here.

Steve Pomrenke, the owner of the "Christein Rose" had a placer mine up there in Nome and was featured on Gold Fever years back. it looks like he moved all of his equipment to make up the barge/dredge combo. lots of drama on this show aswell! it looks like he knows how-to-use his equipment! except for that row boat part!!

my take on the show. there is no smut so they must have fights and tension.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yx3s9YiYFS8 here is how you get a barge with no motor to the site.
save a tree, eat a squirrel.

How much do you want to bet that there was nothing wrong with the motor to begin with and the malfunction was just part of the storyline. Until last night I had never watched any of these shows but what it reminded me of is watching WWF wrestling when I was a kid. They tell you its real and act like its real but in "reality" its all bogus. I mean the Hoffman crew, all they could talk about is not making wages and how broke they are. Is Discovery Channel somehow not paying you for starring in their show? Cmon.

i would beleive that there is a lot of "reality" added into these shows, but i do beleive the Christein Rose malfunction was probly a real thing. ive done a little mining myself and know that break downs are part of what really happens weither or not the camaras are rolling! what id suspect is their actually going out with it broke! now theres the "show must go on" part of "reality"! people "useually" checkout thier equipment BEFORE they need to use it! the running out of fuel can be expected when you use the equipment as a row boat!
