Lets see now:

Fred Hurt is supposed to be a well seasoned miner. He chose to not attend the required annual training to run the production of his mine in conformance with MISHA mandates. He is a nationally publicized miner who certainly should have behaved better. The fact of the matter is that he should have had the simple two days training needed for this requirement for all workers at his mine (including the film crew) as well as the 8 hour required site specific training out of the way long before he set foot on the claim.

The Schnables have been mining for over a quarter of a century and, it seems, never heard about MSHA required training? Obviously "born into the business" Parker is inexperienced and very young - but his father and Grand Pa John certainly should have had a clue.

All that MSHA inspector wanted from both of them was the safety training done (oh, yes, AND pay the fines AND fix the safety screw-ups that came about because they didn't bother to go to that training). :o

Both 'camps' voluntarily bought into the Hoffman's soap opera - so, "Let the Buyer Beware".

I agree, but no inspection in 20 + years??????? The govt. is right on top of that one huh!?! That's like the new power-sluiceing permit debocle.I talked to a guy at BLM about these and was told they have over 800 apps already and they will be lucky to be able to check out 3-4 areas a week come spring. Sounds like alot of folk will be sitting around waiting or pushing their luck working in Cali. this year!!!! PISS ON CALI.!!!!!!

so did they kill the show due to rateings. or are they going to fix there perment and safty problems. sounds to me like if the rateings were good the producer would be all over the leagle stuff to keep the show rolling.

So just what size of operation requires the MSHA regs to apply?
Are the small miners under the same regs or is it applicable to only the operations using heavy equip?
I never heard of the MSHA 'til now. Makes me think of OSHA. ( I've had to deal with them, not prospecting but in my trade. )
I have done so much, with so little, for so long, that I am now qualified to do anything with nothing.
Now, I just have to find the time to put the dang thing together.

Like Hoser said keep it small and quiet.

MSHA covers All mining operations, but mostly if employees are involved. Think of it as OSHA for mines which it is. And they have the authority to shut you down and levy fines in a heartbeat.

Been there done that and have the TEE shirt.
