Test of 3 Inch Super Gold Sucker at Cajon Creek

Postby deserdog » Thu Aug 11, 2011 8:42 am

I did a test to see how much material a 3 inch super sucker could pick up each stroke. I sucked up material and dumped it in a pan, and then took a picture. I took pictures of 15 sequential pans. The first 5 pans where loose material that had gathered in the hole since the last time I worked the hole, and I did not classify them. The next 9 pans were from material that had to be loosened up with my digging bar before being sucked up. These 9 pans I took a picture after classifing to show the larger rocks that the 3 inch could suck up. I I tok pictures of another pan, but hten the memory on my old camera was full.

Here are a few of the pictures, you can see all of the pictures by clicking on the link to my photbucket album below.

It only takes 10, maybe 15 seconds to suck up the material and then dump it onto the classifer set on the sluice. But my sluice cannot handle the material that fast. To fully utilize my 3 inch, I need either a wider sluice, or set up 2 sluices side by side.

Each stroke can usually suck up about a pan of material, sometimes a little more and sometimes a little less. I got a few plugs when long wide rocks got sucked into the nozzle.

wow that looks like its really working! It looks like you are getting everything from fines to larger stuff, I would really be interested in more about it, sounds like this may be the thing that I would want to get my dad for his birthday.

I am 57, and I can use mine for hours at a time no problem. But then again, I am use to using one. When I first started using a super sucker, a 2 inch, and this was years ago, I did get sore until I got use to it.

Here is some of the gold I have pulled out of Cajon Creek. I only spend about an hour to 2 hours at the creek each time. There is a little bit of gold in all the material, more under the big boulders. Just have to move lots of material to recover it.

{b]I wish that were for a 2 hour day! Cajon Creek is not what you would call a rich deposit. This is from many 1 to 2 hour trips.[/b]
